Alumni magazine redesign

EDIT is the annual magazine for University of Edinburgh alumni. Each edition contains interviews with graduates, features about the University, and insights to the impact and legacy of both.

There is an online version, while the print edition is mailed to alumni every summer. It’s an important item of communication but, in recent times, the design failed to reflect the excitement or quality of the writing.

We were commission to reimagine EDIT – not a subtle redesign but a transformation that would increase accessibility and impact, and establish a cleaner and more confident look and feel.

Working with the University’s existing brand assets – of which we have a deep understanding, having developed the guidelines and worked with them on other projects – we created a bolder layout that allows more space for photography and illustration, creates a better balance between text and images, and allows copy to be clear and accessible (bearing in mind that many of the University’s alumni are older readers).

The results give EDIT a distinctive look and feel that still feels an integral part of University communications.
