Brand identity

Project ThermaSMART is an international network of organisations, led by the University of Edinburgh, which is working on a joint research programme for the cooling of microprocessors and high-power electronic devices.

Our role was considerably less cutting-edge but no less important as the project required a brand identity to bring together different international stakeholders, partners and collaborators under one unifying banner.

The technology (this part we do understand) uses microchannels carrying a cooling liquid to absorb and dissipate heat, and formed the basis of our design concept.

The ‘T’ and ‘S’ of the mark is created from a continuous ‘channel’ that flows back and forth in ‘hot’ and ‘cool’ colours of red and blue. These core colours are combined with imaginative crops at different scales to create a suite of assets for use across the project’s full range of branded collateral.
